Pomegranates are a favorite food in our house and we look forward to pomegranate season every year, only thing is it takes a little bit of effort to break the fruit down to enjoy. Packaging

When I first looked at the package I squealed that even the lid was shaped like a pomegranate! (Totally plan on turning the lids into an ornament for the tree next year.) I read on POM’s Facebook there was a collapsible spoon inside, which I was anxious to see. The lid states there’s a spoon included. Our oldest daughter was absolutely fascinated with the spoon and had to use it at every opportunity. The spoon was easy to open, fold into position, close and replace the multiple times we used it.

“The Sprinkles You Can Have Every Day”

The first meal we had the POM POMs with was breakfast. We made oatmeal and each of us made up our own bowls. Since it was the day before Christmas, our girls wanted green sprinkles (that we had leftover from cookie baking.) We compromised and suggested they add the red pomegranates to make their oatmeal even MORE festive – much healthier than sugar ones. These are sprinkles you can have every day!

Throughout the day Saturday we snacked on the arils between meals, had with lunch and saved the rest for Christmas Day Brunch.

Sprinkle in your Drink

Dave and I served mimosas with brunch and I thought, ‘why not add a spoonful of the POM POMs to my drink? Perhaps a bit of the juice in the glass?’ In the name of all things food, I took a chance. While we talked about the POM POMs, we passed them around and the girls sprinkled them on their pancakes, snacked on them, here’s what happened to my drink.

Check it out – a POM Sunrise! We weren’t sure if the juice would sink or just mix in, but the longer the drink sat, the clearer the line became.

Perfect Ending to a Meal

We were going to serve the POM POMs with chocolate mousse, but then I remembered I had some pumpkin bars in our freezer that we could serve instead of making a whole new dessert. (Our families are big into baking, and were bringing leftover pie and cookies from Christmas Eve dinner anyway.) One of the first recipes I blogged about was Pumpkin Bars with Pomegranate Arils. I thought how fitting it was to revisit a family recipe we made in Florida, and could now share a couple years later at during our first Christmas back in Pittsburgh! It was a total hit!
