Tonight I had the chance to revisit one of my old haunts, A. W. Beattie Career Center for their First Annual Fish Fry. (All Proceeds go to the FCCLA Vocational Student Organization). First off, we love the food at Beattie. Dave and I went for lunch a few months ago, and it’s seriously one of the best kept secrets in the area. We’re helping the kids, and I am getting fed = win win!

This event was popular for it being their third week in. I arrived at 4:30pm, waited in line a bit and left at 5pm with my take out order. The students took the orders and bussed tables quite professionally. A very well oiled machine with those in the kitchen answering “Yes Chef” as orders were processed. Super impressed!

When I got home, I was even further impressed by our meals. Fish and bun were separate, so nothing was squishy, all fresh tasting. The fries, macaroni and cheese and cole slaw were excellent as well. Each meal comes with cole slaw, and then you have your choice of fries, mac and cheese or homemade potato chips. Most item are offered al a carte as well.

Finally, What Beattie Meant To Me

As a teen, I spent the last two years of high school as a student here. I cherished the opportunities Beattie offered so I could get a jumpstart on a career in Computer Technology. I participated in their Apprenticeship/Co-Op program and worked part-time my senior year of high school. The career and life skills I learned at Beattie served me well into my college years as I enjoyed part-time work through all four years of college. My brother and sister also did quite well during their years there as well.

Now, Beattie has all sorts of seriously nifty classes like Agile Robotics/Advanced Manufacturing, Introduction to Pharmacy, Pastry Arts, Network Engineering Tech and lots more! (As of this writing, they also have Summer Camp sessions for students entering grades 6-9). Get a haircut by a Cosmetology student, or have some lunch – you won’t be disappointed!
