Today I harvested the last of our basil and served fresh pesto for dinner topped with tomatoes from our garden. While there’s barely a difference in taste between fresh, or frozen pesto nothing beats having tomatoes you grew on top of basil you grew too! (When the season allows throw some garlic scapes in your pesto = ah-mazing!)

Also for any followers, the pesto we make at home is nut free. In an earlier time we used pine nuts, and would get pine mouth which is not fun. Your mouth tastes like metal, and food has all sorts of off tastes and it lasts for a few weeks. Now, our pesto is nut free period because of food allergies, and honestly I like the nut-free pesto better. Mix the pesto in with some mayo and you have a super delicious spread that goes great on sandwiches, or mix some shredded chicken in the pesto mayo for a delicious chicken salad. The pestobilities are endless! (laugh)

Last basil harvest = pesto
