We got the party started a bit early with some local hard ciders from Arsenal Cider House in Pittsburgh, PA, and Shirley Temples for the girls. We picked these ciders up not too long ago to have with holiday meals, but some plans changed so D and I got to enjoy each of these growlers ourselves (some tonight and the other a few days ago).

It was my first visit to Arsenal, but definitely not my first growler. I had the chance to sample a few other varieties while Dave stood in line. They had a really refreshing peach cider that I was hoping would come home with us. We decided to get a second apple growler, since it just makes sense to fill up two at a time rather than make a special trip just for one.

The atmosphere was quite cozy inside, with a few high top tables in the back for people to enjoy drinks, but enough room to wait in line to get your growlers filled and samples tasted. Grab a meal from one of the many local restaurants and finish up at Arsenal!

Herron’s Honeycrisp (Semi-Sweet Apple 8.5% ABV)

Our newest growler, Major Dave! The honeycrisp was a bit on the sweet side, but tasted like a mouthful of apples. It paired perfectly with our Croque Madames for dinner. (French version of a hot ham and cheese with a sauce and egg on top.)

Fighting Ellek (Off-dry Apple, 8.5% ABV)

Mine is called “Corporal Krissy.” Dave bought this growler as a birthday present awhile back. Love it! The Fighting Ellek is a bit dry with a hint of apple, but still refreshing and perfect with many fall and winter meals.

Shirley Temples

This was my drink of choice during both my pregnancies whenever we’d go out. I missed having a fancy drink, so this was my go to. How do you make yours? Sprite and Grenadine/Red cherries, or Ginger Ale and cherries?

Cheers to 2015!
