Finally had the chance to check on Stoke’s Grill on McKnight Road Ross/West View. Dave tasked me with finding a sandwich place we had not been before. Stoke’s Grill immediately popped into my head as a possibility since I/we had been putting off going for such a long time. Most of my previous visits here were to private events in their party room, so I was looking forward to actually trying some non-party food. (Their pizzas are delicious by the way!) We checked out the (very blurry) menu online ahead of time to minimize our wait even further.

We went on a Monday afternoon around 12:30 PM, and we were fully prepared to wait since that’s a top complaint among review sites. I read some reviews on the food and there was a recent rave about the Ropa Vieja sandwich which piqued my interest. Dave was immediately taken by the Monte Cristo sandwich, since a good one is such a rarity around here.

Overview: Is it time to go back yet? Thumbs up!

We really liked our food at Stoke’s. They had a pretty big list of soups that sounded delicious, and wide selection of beers. For the longest time I put off going here to eat because I was torn between hearing how good the food was, but how random the service could be. There will most definitely be more trips to here!

Monte Cristo Sandwich with Broccoli Salad

The ham, turkey, and provolone sandwich was quartered, battered, and fried. The roasted red pepper aioli (red pepper mayo) made for a nice dipping sauce. The broccoli salad was a very nice surprise. The broccoli was fresh and raw, the red onion was not overtly oniony, and the dressing was slightly sweet and just enough so you could still taste the other ingredients.

Ropa Vieja with Onion Rings

Ropa Vieja // Stoke's Grill

The pressed sandwich featured slightly spicy shredded pork (carnitas pork) and roasted red peppers with a side of au jus. I selected the onion rings for my side, which were definitely a hit with the batter staying on the onion and not sliding off.

Reheat Factor = Easy!

Where we can, we typically eat half our meal and save the other half for a meal later in the week. To do this, and you can even do it with pizza or frozen chicken nuggets. This technique is great in the summer time. Oven cooked or fresh cooked taste without heating up the house. You’d be amazed what sandwich foods we have reheated this way!

  1. Spray a skillet with some cooking spray.
  2. Place the sandwich in a skillet (cook in the microwave for 30 seconds to a minute to get the inside cooked if you’re crunched for time).
  3. Cover food with a lid if available, slightly skewed to let the steam out. Tented aluminum foil will work too.
  4. Gently cook on each side until a light brown.
  5. Save even more time if you have a fancy panini press/George Foreman Grill. Throw it all in and press it and cook it.
  6. Enjoy!

So if you’re looking to grab a beer and a sandwich, or maybe a soup and sandwich Stoke’s Grill is your place to go!
