While there are many coffee shops in the North Hills I have only been mildly impressed by the ones I have been too. I really love Espresso a Mano in Lawrenceville, but the distance and parking situation make tough.

I was excited to hear positive comments from friends soon after Convive Coffee Roastery opened in McCandless Crossing. We finally found some time to go in and try their coffee. We were really pleased with the service and knowledge the staff offered. Dave ordered a pour over and one of the employees happily and very knowledgeably explained each variety of beans available to help Dave make a decision.

Menu and ordering area

My order took a bit less explaining, a mocha. I’m always looking for a good mocha and it’s easy to try the same things at various places to compare and contrast. The mocha had the right balance of chocolate to coffee taste. Many times a mocha tastes of a very bitter dark chocolate, or a very bitter/strong coffee but this had a very smooth and mild almost milk chocolate taste. A very delicious drink.

Mocha and a pour over

The pour over hot and tasty too. (I was too busy trying to enjoy my mocha that was very much enhanced by each sip I took of Dave’s pour over.)

The ceilings are tall and inside is bright, open, and relaxing. There were a group of moms meeting there in the back corner, and nearly all the tables in the front were busy with people working. We both enjoyed our drinks and look forward to going back to explore the rest of the menu. (Fondue for two coming soon! /swoon)

It was fun reading the Pay it Forward boards that are up.
