Easy Chocolate Ice Cream #desserts #food #chocolateSummer = hot = ice cream season right? A few weeks ago, America’s Test Kitchen posted a few easy ice cream recipes from their archives. This Easy Chocolate Ice Cream recipe is a six ingredient recipe that does not require any special equipment, how cool is that? (Get it, cool? I like bad puns…)

This chocolate ice cream is like eating a creamy chocolate candy bar. There’s a lot of chocolate in it and a little goes a long way in terms of taste. I’d rather have a little bit of awesome chocolate ice cream versus a lot of not-so-good-still-craving-ice cream ice cream.  The ice cream is smooth, creamy and oh so chocolatey!

Price of Chocolate

I am totally making this again, BUT be aware the price of the chocolate alone is at least $3, and it uses a whole 4oz box. I use Baker’s Chocolate and the boxes got a big shrink ray in the last  year. (Can only find 4oz boxes vs. the old school 8oz sizes.) The recipe makes one quart, so yes this recipe may end up costing more than your store brand ice cream, but it has a lot less ingredients and probably less freezer burn taste righ? This is really good ice cream, less is more!

My tip: Buy your baking/dipping etc. chocolate when it goes on SALE. Start looking in the fall around Halloween/Thanksgiving. Save any coupons, look for sales during and after the holidays. I bought a ridiculous amount of Baker’s Chocolate at Target before and after Christmas last year, still well within its expiration. Again, I’m willing to spend the money that makes something really good, and have less.

This was another fun recipe to do with the kids, and I am now officially queen of all things dairy in our family. Per my kingdom, Mommy makes awesome smoothies, awesome yogurt, and now more awesome ice cream.
