This is what you get when you try to plant before May 1 in Zone 6 (find your zone)- frost warning. I went to Lowe’s and to buy some Basil and other herbs to plant with the girls. As we were planting them I realized I could take one basil plant and divided it up into 3-4 seperate plants, I hope this means I can get more basil vs. one giant plant in a planter. I just tripled my basil output – I hope, because we love pesto! After we finished I get a notification on my phone about a frost warning for the next morning. WHAT? Really, there’s only a day or two left in the month of April and sunny warm weather in the forecast. Ugh – I know I know, wait until mid-May, but but….!

That evening after the girls went to bed I pulled all the baskets down and moved them closer to the house and put a towel over them. The girls planted some seeds and snapdragons in another bed, so covered those up. I felt bad about the pansies and snapdragons in the front yard because I didn’t have anything else to cover them with, so fingers crossed I hoped the freeze wouldn’t be too bad.

Everything turned out okay and now I have my eyes to planting our vegetable garden this weekend or next – in May, just like we did last year. I suppose we should just make it a family tradition to plant and prep our garden on Mother’s Day weekend, everyone loves helping! In the mean time, I can’t wait to try out our new Texas Tomato Cages! I’ll probably do a post on those once we get them up!
