Today. We garden. Phase 1
Today we started our garden! We started two beds of vegetables and one bed of tomatoes. The weather should be in the mid to upper 60s to 70s for the next five to ten days, so we went for it. Last year we started Mother’s Day weekend and were pretty successful. For Zone 6, there’s still a danger of frost until Mid-May, but given the forecast I think we’ll be good. Fingers crossed for an amazing crop of bush beans, carrots, beets, spinach and mixed salad greens!
I still need to buy some tomato plants, but I’m really excited for our Texas Tomato Cages. I ordered the galvanized steel cages online, and what you see here is just the bottom half of the cages. The $2 cages I had last year were crushed in their first windstorm, so I hope these cages are worth the investment. There’s another three foot section that goes on top. I am going to be more diligent about pruning so we get a nice tall, full plant that isn’t growing too far outside these super sturdy cages. Best part of these cages – besides them folding flat for storage? I paid for the cages taking online surveys at Opinion Outpost – I trade in my points to feed my PayPal account. Aggressively taking 50 cent to $3 surveys really adds in about three months time. You can sign up too!
And now, just enough energy to enjoy Cinco de Mayo!https://www.thesugarpixie.net/2013/05/05/today-we-garden-phase-1/Gardeningbeans,beets,carrots,grow your own, salad, spinach, texas tomato cages, tomatoToday we started our garden!
