Half the battle of filling and rolling a burrito is less is more. The perfect burrito has just a little less filling than what you think you need. Working with fresh and soft tortillas, or lightly softened tortillas from the microwave will make you a burrito rolling pro. When you roll enough of these you sort of get a feel what works for you! I put this together, because I feel this is the easiest method and it even works for sandwich wraps!

Step 1 – Soften

Soften tortillas in microwave in short intervals 5-8 seconds and work quickly. Alternately, cover a stack with a slightly damp paper towel and microwave for about 30 seconds.

Step 2 – Fill

Place filling in the lower third of the tortilla, and leave some room at the bottom and sides.

Step 3 – Begin wrap

Bring the bottom edge up, and gentle fold over, and pull back/fold under a bit. Trying to make the burrito nice and tight without the filling spilling everywhere.

Step 4 – Fold Sides

Gently place one hand on the middle of the burrito (where filling is), and gently fold one side. Hold with hand, and then gently fold the other side up.

Step 5 – Roll tightly

Holding the sides with your thumb and index fingers, roll/fold the burrito toward the top of the tortilla. I generally put my thumbs underneath and hold with my fingers. Hold the sides as tight as you can, and if they pop up, just tuck them in after you complete the roll. Try and roll a bit tighter if you can and gently massage the filling into a rectangle. Lift and gently place on parchment paper.

For Sandwich Wraps : Wrap tightly in plastic wrap using the same method. Place filled burrito near lower third of wrap, pull wrap over, fold in sides tightly, and roll up. Stores well for at least a day!
